Turning Art into Profitable Business: 5 “starving artist strategy sessions” to give away

Kiwi Artist Sam Ludden is putting paid to the stereotype of the "starving artist".

A keen potter, Sam has been in business for years and has no shortage of creative talent and flair, but struggled to turn his passion into a profitable business to support his family…. until he teamed up with our own Janine Ogg (who happens to be Sam's partner)!

Based on her own experience with Love Your Small Business, and years of helping clients to transform their ideas into profit, Janine was bursting with ideas at the strategic level that she and Sam began applying – with immediate impact.

As a result of their teamwork, Sam has lowered his overheads, tapped into new markets and been able to even out the usual selling low points that can traditionally occur in the world of art. They have a well-planned strategy and Sam is loving the new confidence that he can not only make a great living as an artist doing what he loves, but can relax in the knowledge he can provide for his family.

Starting the new year in style… did you? (It’s not too late!)

In the week since I’ve been back in computer-land after a wonderful holiday, I’ve seen countless blog entries and facebook posts about New Years Resolutions, Intentions, Goals and Plans… all of which are truly great. I believe the point of all these is to do SOMETHING to start off a new year in style.

So we'd love to share a little of what we did to kick things off and also to hear what you did. We have taken the time (not a huge amount) to do not one but two things – both really simple and both have had a massive impact on our mindset and intentions for the coming year (and as a result I’m oober excited about what this year, even the next few months, will bring!)

First off – we celebrated! Read the rest of this entry »

The week before Christmas… chaos or calm?

Our intention with Love Your Small Business has always been that our work supports time with family, opportunities for adventures and the chance to live healthy, balanced lives (as opposed to taking over every waking minute of our lives).

However this time last year we worked right up till Christmas and were left wondering where we had gone wrong as we launched into our family Christmases feeling tired, stressed, and not having had time to really enjoy that special time to celebrate family and summer.

Well we're not going to let that happen again, and this year we have decided that on Friday December 14th we will turn off our computers and pack away our work, giving us more than a week to unwind, spend with family, and really enjoy a 3-week break (so we have energy to cause some chaos!).

It can be tricky to prioritise family and holidays, especially in the early years of business when things are still getting off the ground, but we know that January is going to be a busy month for us (an exciting new programme is already in motion) so it's crucial for us to have time completely away from technology and to stop having our heads buried in the business, so we can come back fresh and rearing to go.

What about you?

We invite you to set your own STOP WORK DATE now and leave a comment below or come and share it on our Facebook page. This is your chance to commit to it publicly! This date should be early enough to give you the time and energy you need to get through the crazy xmas period with less stress and more fun!

Wishing you a relaxed, safe and happy Holiday Season

Turn $100 into a $1000 scholarship and create your business dream!

How far can $100 go?

At a recent event our friend and mentor Natalie Sisson was handed $100 and `told to have fun with it, surprise someone or start something special'.

Nat believed that this $100 change could potentially change lives.

She set about starting a movement that not only offers a blueprint for creating change, but a framework of motivation, mentoring and a community to make things happen.

The result is $100 Change, and we think you need to know about it because it's a seriously cool project.

$100 Change is a program empowering you to start your dream project or business in 100 days for $100.

Mountain Climbing and Magnificence

Who are Janine and Jo?

That's Jo on the left and Janine on the right – and this pic of us is in Snowdonia, Wales.

Back in 2009, Janine took Jo on a mission to climb the 13 peaks of Snowdon in 24 hours (as a 30th Birthday present…good friend huh?)

We managed 9 of them in 36 hours and had a blast! It was a huge challenge, both physically and mentally, but also a whole lot of fun.

The views were amazing, the sense of freedom was huge and undertaking a challenge like that gave us a taste of our own magnificence. We learned just how far we were capable of pushing ourselves.

We ate a lot of chocolate, and could hardly walk the next day!

We're sharing this because if you're tempted by our biz school, you'll want to know who we are

We know it's important for you to meet the people behind the emails.

We are asking you to trust us (Janine and Jo, the Mountain-climbing-chocolate-eating, trailblazing Kiwis who are passionate about making a difference)

We love to work with purpose, adventure and fun. We will invite you to do the same (the pic on the right is us at our most recent meeting)

By challenging you, we will tap into the deeper essence of who you are as a person, and that allows you to find your own solutions to your challenges.

We will help you bring your magnificence to the fore in your business

So thats us.

Are you up for it?

Step into a world with these two crazy kiwis, challenge yourself, have some adventures and some fun.

Taste freedom, direction, confidence and focus in your business before 2012 is over.

We invite you to join us on our Business School and meet your magnificence.

Warmest regards

Janine and Jo
